The 2010 class has decided to make supporting our local economy its top priority. And with the biggest class in LOC history, the group is tackling a three-fold project that will spread the word, celebrate businesses and give back to the county. The three plans have one goal: to improve the financial situation in Ottawa County. Phase 1 of the project is an educational campaign with the slogan “Live Here, Buy Here.” Marketing materials are being prepared for businesses and consumers alike to create a brand that will educate the public and add value for local businesses. The Live Here, Buy Here campaign will continue into phase two in the early part of 2010 when the class will put on a “Taste of Ottawa County.” The event will serve as a showcase for local businesses and a fun night out for locals and tourists. The Taste will coincide with the “Biggest Week in American Birding” in May at the Ottawa Wildlife Refuge and Magee Marsh. Money brought in from the Taste event will stay right here in Ottawa County for Phase 3 of the project. The class intends to donate proceeds to a local charity or entity that would use the funds to better the county.
